Free range pigs

Pigs have always had a place on the Mathis-Hof. Initially, they were pot-bellied pigs, later wooly pigs, and now we keep large white pigs from March to September. On the generously sized field, they are free to roam, play and dig around in the dirt, and enjoy a diet including our pumpkins. Through them, we can make use of pumpkins unsuitable for trade and other products from our farm, in a way that makes sense. In March comes the time when they are brought to the butcher, and the meat is sold at the farm in a package consisting of various cuts, including sausages.

Info

The free-range pork is sold once per year (usually in March) in a package consisting of various cuts. The minimum order is one-quarter of an animal and amounts to approximately 12 kilos. The package consists of roast, filet, chops, loin, knuckle, spareribs, bacon and sausages. The price is CHF 30,00/kg. You will receive the cuts in vacuum packaging, portioned for 2-3 people, and with the necessary details written on the package.

Please place your order via email at info@mathis-hof.ch. You may make your payments in cash, by credit card, or via invoice. First-time customers are asked to pay in cash or by card.

Smoked bacon

Because the bacon is cured and subsequently smoked for several weeks before it is ready for sale, it is not a part of the mixed packages. The smoked bacon will be available for sale approximately by the beginning of June in our farm shop. Customers of the mixed packages will be informed by way of email when the smoked bacon is available.

Tips

  • Because of the vacuum packaging one does not need to freeze the meat immediately, but can be kept in the refrigerator for approximately one week.
  • When freezing the meat we recommend a temperature of -20° C degrees Celsius. (The small, integrated freezer in the refrigerator is generally not sufficiently cold.)
  • When thawing the meat, make sure to plan sufficient time for the process, ensuring the quality of your meat. We do not recommend thawing the meat in a microwave.
